The story of Aeowyn

Aeowyn, of the Mountains, grew up in a humble home. The daughter of a wood craftsman, she spent many hours scouring the forest for the perfect timber for her father's projects. Her only childhood toys were the sticks of wood she encountered. The town of Zinder was very small and tucked away between two of the highest peaks in the Dragonspine Mountains. The townsfolk sustained themselves by gardening in the lush soil that abound the area. One year, the people of Zinder found themselves in the middle of a terrible drought. All of the beautiful crops quickly dried up and were lost. Just when things could not get any worse, it began to rain. The soil was replenished and wonderful green plants began to sprout up everywhere. This is when the people of Zinder realized that you can indeed have too much of a good thing. The rains continued for many months, causing all of the rich soil that sustained this small town to run down the mountainside. To make matters worse, their major trade route was beginning to become unsafe and the town on the other end of the route (Millbrook) was being over run with terrible creatures. Because of the pending famine and threat from the creatures in Millbrook, the good people of Zinder were forced to flee their wonderful town. Some of the elders were unable to make such an arduous journey and elected to stay behind. Aeowyn's father was on in years and did not think he could survive such a trip. Aeowyn was unable to leave her father and stayed with him through these very trying times. He passed away six months later leaving Aeowyn with a decision that would change her life forever.
A traveling circus group had not heard of
Zinder's demise. They arrived in town one day to find many empty houses and a few starving towns people. They shared what little food they had and gave the people a few hours of entertainment. During the festivities Aeowyn was quite taken aback by the two Jesters in the group. Their juggling skills were unlike anything she had ever seen. From spending many years in the woods playing with twigs and sticks Aeowyn had honed her own skills, but they were nothing like those of the two Jesters. There was clearly a leader among the two, one named Decalin. He was very strong and intimidated Aeowyn a bit. The other, Rhubian, seemed distracted and in need of counsel, so Aeowyn approached him with a riddle: "What has roots that nobody sees, is taller than trees, up up it goes, and yet never grows?" Unsure of the answer, Rhubian posed a riddle of his own, which Aeowyn, showing her cunningness, was able to answer immediately. Through the rising of the moon and the sun the next day, Rhubian was unable to answer the riddle, mostly because he was still mourning the loss of his brothers, although to have something else on his mind was a good change. Because the circus group was preparing to leave that day, Rhubian brought Aeowyn and her riddle to Decalin. "A mountain of course," he answered immediately. He was impressed with Aeowyn's cunning mind and asked her if she possessed any other skills. She drew out her sticks and showed him some of the tricks she had taught herself over the years. While she was quite raw in her abilities, Decalin saw great potential in this young woman and asked her to become his student in the Guild of Jesters. Aeowyn was so excited by this chance she immediately said yes and began a journey of self- renewal with the Great Decalin and his student Rhubian.

First, Decalin and Aeowyn travelled together to the land of Drachmar, following Rhubian, to a feast held in the honor of Rygor the sailor. Rhubian was quite surprised that they were there because he had left quite a bit before his master and had barely made it there on time himself. At this feast Aeowyn met many people and participated in a bardic where she posed many riddles. The highlight of the evening was certainly the pie fight! It was here that the jesters learned about what a problem in the spirit wood of Drachmar. After some pleas for help from those in the wood and some threats by "cultists of Jubilon" and a demon known only as "The Speaker", Decalin decided to bring the guild to aid in the spirit wood. It was to be the day of Rhubian's Apprenticeship Test and Aeowyn's Student Test. Aeowyn learned much about the history of the region and was able to answer all of Decalin's questions. She also aided Rhubian in his test. She also challenged the Speaker and was able to successfully damage him and cause him to retreat. All of her tasks completed, she took to aiding Master Decalin in his personal quest to destroy the Speaker. That day she certainly proved herself to be a great asset to the Guild and was immediately made an official Student of the Guild.
