#1. To become a Student:
To become a student in the Guild, A short project will be assigned to the recruit by the Master Jester. This usually requires some research followed by a test of knowledge and can involve additional tasks to be completed throughout the day. This test generally will only last anywhere from a few hours to one day. Basically the purpose is to assure the Master that the recruit has true desire to be part of the Guild and also to become a Jester. Students are expected to wear the traditional black/blue garb of the Guild. Also, the student should wear a hat or hood of their choice to express their individuality.
#2. To become a full Apprentice:
To become a Jester Apprentice, a minor quest is assigned by the Master Jester. The details of the quest are at the discretion of the Master, but should involve a multi-task adventure that will place the student in some tricky and dangerous situations. The student will have to use all of the skills, talents, strength, and cunning that he/she has at their disposal. Finally, their jestering skills will be tested. The Jester Apprentice will receive a token of their status to be displayed on their garb. Also, the Apprentice will often take on some teaching responsibilities at this stage.
#3. To become a Jester:
To become a full-fledged Jester of the Guild, the Jester Apprentice must first demonstrate expertise in the Jester-art of his/her choice, in public. Once satisfied, the Master Jester will assign a major quest to the Apprentice. This test should test the dedication and spirit of the Apprentice, and as in all the trials all of the resources at their disposal will be needed to complete the quest. In addition, the Master Jester should lend very little/no help to the Apprentice towards the completion of the quest. Once completed, the Apprentice will have earned the highly esteemed title of Jester. In addition, the Jester earns the right to begin training a student of their own, under the supervision of the Master Jester.
#4. To become a Master Jester:
Becoming a Master Jester is an accomplishment that must be earned with much hard work and dedication, and is rarely achieved. The Jester must demonstrate a mastery of the Jester-art of their choice, as well as high proficiency outside their chosen field of expertise. Of course there will also be a number of quests and tasks to be completed before completion of this trial. Also, if at all possible, another Master Jester should be present at the completion of this trial and should play a role in the design. Finally, the Master Jester must not interfere with this trial at any stage, for this test is to render the Jester a Master and thus self-sufficient. Traditionally, the Master Jester will throw a large celebration in honor of the achievement, and good times are had by all.
